Quantum Deception
Prologue: The Mission
Shanghai, China
The room was dark—deliberately so. Every nonessential detail had been stripped away, leaving only the soft glow of a monitor casting a cold blue light over a polished desk. Beyond the tinted glass, Shanghai sprawled in steel and neon, its rhythm distant and disinterested.

He held the stare in the mirror a moment longer, then let it go.
He opened a matte-black briefcase, revealing stacks of crisp U.S. hundred-dollar bills. They felt heavier tonight than they should.
Outside, Shanghai went on as it always did — indifferent, enormous, swallowing everything.
He slowly opened the door and stepped into the corridor, leaving the room in darkness.
The game had begun. Some of the pieces didn't even know they were in play.
